Symposium in the Sun delivers leadership training designed specifically for the realities of volunteer and combination departments. The symposium features a dynamic group of vendors offering tools, technology, and equipment to support departments of every size, helping ensure team safety. Powered by the IAFC's Volunteer & Combination Officers Section (VCOS), this event brings together chief officers who manage volunteer personnel within volunteer or combination fire, rescue, and EMS systems, providing the information, education, and representation needed to elevate professionalism and leadership across the fire service. The symposium also addresses topics such as transitioning from a volunteer to a combination department, recruitment and retention, leadership and management, and staffing.
