About this conference
NASEO, in collaboration with the Smart Surfaces Coalition (SSC), will be hosting an in-person Smart Surfaces Workshop on February 20, 2026, to be held at NASEO's office building (1812 North Moore Street, Arlington, VA). This full-day workshop will convene State Energy Offices, cities, nonprofit organizations, and private-sector partners to explore how Smart Surfaces, including cool roofs and pavements, green infrastructure, urban trees, and rooftop and canopy solar, can be integrated into state and local efforts to lower energy costs, reduce peak electricity demand, and protect critical infrastructure from extreme heat and flooding. Through panel discussions, demonstrations, and peer exchange, participants will hear from states and cities implementing Smart Surfaces strategies, learn about emerging technologies and tools, and discuss pathways for incorporating Smart Surfaces into state programs, policies, and plans. The workshop will also include a site visit highlighting Smart Surfaces projects in the Washington, D.C. area, followed by an evening reception.
