America 250: Exploring the Past, Present & Future Influence of First Ladies

This engaging event explores the pivotal role of First Ladies in American history. Since Martha Washington served as the 'mother of the country' at the nation's founding 250 years ago, only about 50 women have held the unpaid role of first lady. Not outlined in the Constitution, this position has allowed these women to forge their own paths as symbols of American womanhood, power, and influence. The symposium will feature some of the nation's foremost experts on first ladies, offering insights into their impact. This free public symposium is presented by the Harry S. Truman Presidential Library & Museum and is open to the public, with books by the speakers available for sales and signings.
