About this conference
The Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT) Challenge is an annual training event and competition held at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL), hosted by its Emergency Management Division. It provides hazardous materials response teams with opportunities to network, practice technical skills, and learn new techniques in realistic scenarios, while also aiming to meet Hazardous Materials Technician qualification standards, including refresher credit, Continuous Education Units (CEUs), Competencies, and Job Performance Requirements (JPRs) in accordance with OSHA 29 CFR 1910.120 and NFPA 470. Scenarios involve vehicles, trucks, tankers, and rail cars to mimic real-life situations such as drug laboratories, chemical/biological identification, confined space rescue, compressed gas leaks, radiological incidents, and transportation accidents.
