2026 MCNP User Symposium

The MCNP User Symposium is a conference for users of the MCNP® (Monte Carlo N-Particle®) code, a sophisticated tool for general-purpose transport simulation of various particles (neutrons, photons, electrons, ions) up to 1 TeV/nucleon. Hosted by Los Alamos National Laboratory, an entity managed for the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA), the symposium serves as a crucial platform for MCNP users from Los Alamos, across the United States, and international participants, including those from industry, other laboratories, and academia, to present and discuss diverse applications of the code. Attendees can expect presentations from both the user community and the MCNP development and Nuclear Data teams, covering a wide array of topics such as radiation protection and dosimetry, radiation shielding, radiography, medical physics, nuclear criticality safety, critical and subcritical experiment design and analysis, detector design and analysis, nuclear oil-well logging, accelerator target design, fission and fusion reactor design, decontamination and decommissioning, and nuclear safeguards and nonproliferation. The event also facilitates discussions on new code features, technical tools, and advanced capabilities, contributing to national security, key laboratory missions, and the advancement of nuclear weapon simulations and related research and development activities. Past symposia have included developer presentations, roundtables on topics such as CAD/Unstructured Mesh, Nuclear Data, and responses from user surveys.
