Community Alliance with Family Farmers (CAFF) is distributing $10,000 urban agriculture microgrants funded by the California Department of Food & Agriculture. CAFF encourages any grower who is within 25 miles of an urban area of 50,000 or more people to apply. Community-based, for-profit, and nonprofit organizations and local governments and schools are also eligible to apply. A microgrant can provide up to $10,000 for projects that may need financial support for implementation. The microgrant program is intended to provide funding for up to one year, and projects are expected to be completed within that year.

Accepting proposals for projects that build the capacity of farming and food systems businesses and organizations to become reflective, adaptive learning organizations that can respond effectively to ecological, economic, and social change and disruption. Project priority areas include support for farmers, ranchers, and land stewards, as well as support for communities. Eligible applicants include farm or food system businesses operating in California, nonprofit organizations operating in California, state and local government agencies, Tribal governments, and California public and private institutions of higher education. The maximum individual grant is $10,000, with one Applied Research Grant up to $20,000 available.
