The goal is to establish an army applied research center to collaborate with the government, academia, and industry to accelerate the transition of advanced manufacturing research by applying research concepts and advancing research and technology. The army applied research center would have knowledge and core competencies across a broad range of advanced manufacturing aspects. As a trusted agent for the government, the army applied research center shall have no conflicts of interest in executing its role for the government. Core Competencies: Advanced Manufacturing (AdvM) Processes: Research and development of processes that support large scales, large volumes, adaptive and additive techniques for both air and ground domain system applications. Research and development in both conventional (subtractive) and next-generation (additive) manufacturing (AM) techniques as well as hybrid manufacturing which combines both techniques. Research and development of AdvM processes that enable composites to function at high operating temperatures (which enables lightweighting, weight shifting, and management of dynamic strains).
