Virginia Peninsula Community College

The college-wide town hall included a presentation about shared governance and a presentation about name change implementation. The accomplishments of the shared governance committee were shared, including the establishment of a common language and philosophy for shared governance, and the identification of governing groups. The importance of communication, collaboration, consistency, diversity, honesty, integrity, and transparency were highlighted.

The meeting included program updates on Dental Hygiene (tabled) and Nursing, specifically addressing the VBON review and NCLEX report. A report on enrollment management services highlighted VPCC's partnership with Timely Care, a virtual health and wellbeing provider. A staff change within the PSAHHS Division and the introduction of the Interim Dean were also noted.

The Curriculum, Instruction, and Student Services (CISS) Committee meeting reviewed and approved the minutes from the May 8, 2024 meeting. The committee acknowledged the student code of conduct addendum and facilities use provisions, noting that the VCCS state board removed local college board approval responsibility. The discontinuance of three programs was approved: Administration of Justice AAS, Administration of Justice CSC, and Mechanical Engineering Technology, Specialization in Marine Engineering. Announcements included a draft schedule of CISS Committee meetings for the 2024-25 academic year and the Student Handbook review timeline.

The committee discussed college policies on closures due to inclement weather, noting that decisions are based on road conditions and accessibility for all stakeholders. An update was provided on a partnership with the University of Virginia to offer a Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies, with plans to enroll up to sixteen students in the fall. The committee also discussed Old Dominion University's plans to offer upper-division business administration courses at the Peninsula Center, and the success of Thomas Nelson's Legislative Day at the General Assembly.
