This Regional Needs Assessment, developed by the Alcohol & Drug Awareness Council's Region 5 Prevention Resource Center, provides a comprehensive overview to inform long-term strategic prevention planning. It analyzes various risk and protective factors associated with substance use and misuse, consumption patterns across youth, college students, and adults, and related public health consequences. The assessment also identifies regional prevention resources, service capacities, and critical gaps in behavioral health and substance use prevention services and data within Region 5, Deep and Southeast Texas.

The committee discussed updates on child nutrition, school counseling initiatives, nursing and health services, and various special programs. Topics included the upcoming triennial wellness assessment, opioid prevention education initiatives such as Tucker's Law and the Think SMART curriculum, and community health resources provided by regional partners. The committee also reviewed reports on campus activities, holiday initiatives, and athletic successes, while coordinating future meeting schedules for the upcoming academic year.
