The Board of Trustees held a workshop and special meeting to conduct various district business. Discussions and actions included: Property & Casualty Insurance renewal, the presentation and adoption of the School Improvement Plan, the implementation of RIF Policy (DFFB), the approval of a CACOST facility lease for Harrel Elementary School, a review of district assessments, the approval of attendance policy DEC (Local), the adoption of Bluebonnet Reading Language Arts and Secondary Mathematics instructional materials, and the review of 2026-2027 instructional calendar options. Additionally, the Board reviewed a resolution regarding a period of prayer and bible reading in schools, and held a closed session to consult with legal counsel on legal and personnel matters.

The board reviewed 2026-2027 instructional calendars and approved Turnaround Plans for A.D. Harvey Elementary, N.M. Harrel Elementary, and John S. Gillett Middle School, as well as Targeted Improvement Plans for J.R. Perez Elementary and H.M. King High School. The Superintendent presented an accreditation status report, noting an 'Accredited-Warned' status. Policy updates included a revision to board meeting public participation time limits and amendments to leave and absence procedures. Additionally, the board approved a Reduction in Force due to program changes for the 2026-2027 school year and authorized administrator one-time hiring stipends.

The board addressed several operational and administrative matters, including a superintendent's update on district accreditation, attendance, and innovation status. Key actions included the review of financial audits and budget reports, the approval of insurance renewals, and the authorization of significant district purchases. The board also passed multiple proclamations for upcoming awareness weeks and reviewed revisions to local policies regarding leaves, absences, and public participation. The committee held a meeting to review duties and responsibilities, facilitate the election of a new Secretary and Subcommittee Chairs for Technology and Curriculum and Professional Learning, and present the District Improvement Plan. Additionally, the committee separated into sub-committees to review information and provide feedback on the plan, and discussed options for the upcoming instructional calendar.

The board discussed and received an overview of the 2024-2025 budget calendar. Actions taken included the approval of an amended order for the general school trustee election and the approval of purchases exceeding $50,000 funded by the School Safety Standards Formula Grant and the Safety and Facilities Enhancement Grant. Additionally, the board approved the renaming of the HMK Agricultural Farm to the Corando Cory Garza Ag Farm. During the closed session, the board deliberated on the renewal of professional and non-certified contracts for teachers, principals, directors, coordinators, assistant superintendents, and other administrative staff for the upcoming school year, subsequently approving these renewals in open session.
