The meeting commenced with the recognition of three senior leaders: Chancellor Janet Ericson of the University of Minnesota Morris, Vice President for Research and Innovation Dr. Shashank Priya (who transitioned to founding executive director of the National Security Research Institute), and Vice President and Budget Director Julie Thomasson. Additionally, Professor Paul Glevy was recognized as a Regent Professor. The agenda proceeded with the approval of the minutes and the consent report, which included gifts and committee reports. The President's report highlighted achievements, upcoming leadership transitions (including the naming of Michael Rodriguez as the new Chancellor of UMN Morris), ongoing work on strategic enrollment management, support for students experiencing food insecurity, and safety measures, including the introduction of the new Chief of Police, Dr. Michael Davis. Discussions also covered collaborations related to the Destination Medical Center (DMC) plan expansion and ongoing mediation between the university, Fairview, and M Physicians regarding health and healthcare faculty and staff.
The meeting included the formal introduction of the new executive vice president and provost, Dr. Gretchen Ritter. The approval of the minutes and the consent report, which included gifts, nominations to the University of Minnesota Foundation Board of Trustees, and the report of the naming committee, was addressed. The president provided a report, highlighting the mission to meet people, living out the land grant mission, and uplifting the people of Minnesota, the nation, and the world through research, teaching, and outreach. There was also a discussion regarding the strategic facilitation process for Minnesota Healthcare.
The meeting of the Audit and Compliance Committee of the University of Minnesota Board of Regents included a discussion of the 2025-26 committee work plan. The plan includes regular agenda items, emerging topics, and updates. The annual institutional compliance and conflict of interest reports will be presented in December, along with a closed session to discuss information security. February will include a discussion of recent audit reports, and April will feature updates on enterprise risk management, the institutional risk profile, and the university compliance landscape. The university's risk management program was reviewed, including risk themes, national trends in higher education risks, and next steps related to governance.
