The Board of Trustees held a special meeting that included public comments regarding librarian compensation and hiring procedures for a coaching position. The board recognized teacher residents from the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. Additionally, the board approved consent agenda items and a donation from the James Nikki Rowe High School softball booster club for locker facilities. The meeting also featured a report on pre-kindergarten instructional efforts and student outcomes.

The board discussed public comments regarding the classification of librarians as teachers and the associated impact on compensation. The primary agenda item was the development of the 2026-2027 budget, which included updates on fund balance usage, property value projections, and proposed staffing adjustments. The board reviewed four compensation increase scenarios, discussed potential market equity adjustments, and evaluated funding options for the employee health plan, including the possibility of setting aside funds in the assigned fund balance.

The board workshop was primarily dedicated to the recognition of hundreds of students who represented the school district in various extracurricular activities, competitions, and academic programs. Specific recognitions were held for participants in the Braille and low vision challenge, Special Olympics track and field, Battle of the Books, Chess National Qualifiers, Junior Citizen qualifiers, Spanish Spelling Bee, and various academic UIL teams. The Board adopted a proclamation for Mental Health Awareness Month and approved several interlocal cooperation agreements, including a program for the deaf and a dual credit program with The University of Texas at San Antonio. Additionally, the Board approved multiple Requests for Proposals for instructional supplies, fine arts equipment, apparel, catering, and professional development services, along with various Memorandums of Understanding for student residencies and alternative education programs. The Board also reviewed the district's instructional materials allotment and certification, discussed a report on the STEM Academy and the purchasing scoring matrix, and addressed human resources recommendations, school safety, potential litigation, and real estate acquisition in closed session.
