It also addresses challenges such as economic uncertainties, federal uncertainties, the impact of tax exemptions, hiring and retention, and required obligations from regional entities.

The Planning Commission held a work and regular session to discuss various topics, including the Big Woods North area. Discussions covered zoning districts, permitted uses, and proposed comprehensive plan language for the area, focusing on commercial and residential development. The commission considered the elimination of the Research and Development District in favor of General Commercial zoning and emphasized the need for cohesive planning and infrastructure improvements.

The meeting included a presentation from Amy Jordan with the Hampton Roads Alliance, providing an update on the alliance's activities, directions, and priorities. Discussions covered the alliance's role in connecting business and the public sector, its focus on business retention and expansion, and key sectors such as advanced manufacturing, maritime industries, and unmanned systems. The alliance's funding structure, project pipeline, and recent announcements were also highlighted. Additionally, the EDA considered a property request from the city council.

The comprehensive plan focuses on addressing environmental conditions in the City of Poquoson, including air and water quality, pollution, and natural constraints to development. Key areas of focus include managing wetlands, mitigating flood risks, and addressing the impacts of climate change. It also covers topics such as point and non-point source pollution, total maximum daily load, and the importance of wetlands for flood control and water filtration.
