The Harrisburg School District's Comprehensive Plan formally adopts policies and procedures for special education. This plan ensures compliance with federal and state regulations, including the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), to provide Free and Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) for children with disabilities aged 3-21. Key areas of focus include child identification and evaluation, individualized education programs (IEPs), placement in the least restrictive environment, procedural safeguards for parents, confidentiality of student information, and effective transitions between educational stages. The plan also addresses personnel qualifications, assessment participation, and fiscal management to achieve full educational opportunity for all students with disabilities.

The board discussed and took action on various policies, including graduation requirements and student handbooks. A summary of the board retreat was provided, highlighting the focus on strategic planning, core values, and pillars for the district. The board approved the special education comprehensive report, the strategic plan and its associated measurement tools, the addition of a 12-month administrative assistant position, and a bid for remodel work at the Good and Heritage facilities. Additionally, the board approved a technology surplus and a donation of picnic furniture from the PTO.
