The Education Committee reported on enrollment targets, the need for a Special Education Director, and necessary staff reductions due to budgetary constraints and population shifts. The Marketing/Fundraising committee discussed supporting teachers. Financial reports were reviewed, noting a discrepancy due to common school loan interest, alongside a draft of the 2024 Form 990 and budget timeline assumptions for 2027. Staff reports covered the upcoming testing season, recent school construction impacts on snow removal, student attendance, teacher evaluations, and growth score data. The board also approved the 2026-2027 school calendar.
The board meeting focused on several key items including the upcoming board retreat, student proficiency goals for the current year, and marketing initiatives such as social media outreach and school census planning. Financial discussions involved a review of monthly financials and the approval of a budget reestimate due to lower than anticipated average daily membership. The Head of School report covered strategies for cost cutting, issues regarding the Teacher Appreciation Grant distribution, challenges with literacy licensing requirements for staff, and an increase in student discipline cases and expulsions.
The committee reviewed October financials, noting variations caused by early return of an FMLA staff member and reclassification of lease expenses. Grant updates included approvals and reimbursements for Title I, SIG, and Title V, as well as submission of the first Title IV reimbursement. The committee discussed the Winter tax levy deposit status, reviewed the budget reestimate prepared for the Board, and planned to evaluate Money Market Fund needs for operational cash.
