The council held a study session focusing on two main agenda items. The first item was an update on election security, detailing the multi-layered security measures for voting equipment, voter registration, and physical polling places, including the '100-foot rule' for campaigning. The second item involved a discussion on electric-assisted bicycles (e-bikes), reviewing legislative history, the lack of current state regulation changes, and potential next steps for the city's legislative platform.
The meeting focused primarily on the comprehensive rewrite of the zoning ordinance, specifically replacing section 300 of the city code. The Planning Commission received a presentation from consultants regarding the project's progress, including aligning zoning districts with the city's comprehensive plan, simplifying the development process, and modernizing residential zoning standards. Additionally, there were reports regarding recent City Council activities, updates on the Youth Climate Action Fund proposals, and details on standardized dimensional requirements for residential districts.
The board approved the meeting agenda, reviewed feedback regarding the Shady Oak Beach season, and heard reports from board members.
