Regional District of Central Okanagan Regional Climate Resilience Strategy 2026-2050
The Regional Climate Resilience Strategy for the Regional District of Central Okanagan provides a roadmap to address increasing climate risks and reduce greenhouse gas emissions through coordinated regional action. It focuses on preparing for extreme heat, wildfire, flooding, drought, transportation disruptions, and infrastructure stress, while also striving for significant reductions in GHG emissions with targets set for 2030, 2040, and 2050. The strategy integrates climate action across seven focus areas: community services and resilience, buildings, land use and development, water systems, natural assets and ecosystems, transportation and evacuation, economy and food systems, and climate resilient RDCO governance, with an emphasis on protecting vulnerable populations and leading by example in climate-informed governance.
