The Village of Whitney Point Downtown Strategic Plan aims to revitalize the downtown area by addressing economic decline and quality of life concerns. The plan focuses on six key strategies: establishing the downtown as a center for arts and culture; leveraging its location on major transportation routes to attract visitors; capitalizing on natural resources (the Tioughnioga River and Dorchester Park) to promote tourism and wellness; promoting healthy, diverse neighborhoods; enhancing walkability; and preserving the historic small-town character. The plan includes benchmarked projects such as building façade renovations, vacant space renovation for housing and arts spaces, river trail construction, substandard housing rehabilitation, historical interpretation, streetscape improvements, signage regulation, improved land use management, and the creation of a downtown organization to spearhead implementation. The overall goal is to create a healthy, vibrant downtown that serves residents, employees, and attracts visitors.
