This Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP) for Los Alamitos Unified School District outlines strategies for the 2026-27 school year, focusing on addressing disparities in student opportunities and outcomes. The plan is built around three core goals: fostering exemplary teaching and learning through professional development and targeted interventions; achieving exemplary student outcomes by enhancing academic excellence, college/career readiness, and diverse learning pathways; and cultivating exemplary connections through comprehensive student development, mental health support, parental involvement, and a safe school climate. It aims to improve services for all students, especially foster youth, English learners, and low-income students.

The Board meeting included a student report highlighting academic achievements, athletics, and student life. Recognitions were presented to various staff members, students, and community partners for their excellence and contributions. The Superintendent provided an update on district achievements and end-of-year activities. Presentations covered initial contract negotiations between the District and the Los Alamitos Education Association, followed by a public hearing. Additionally, the Los Alamitos Education Foundation provided a community impact report. Action items included the adoption of retirement resolutions, election specifications, approval of the declaration of need for educators, and personnel and financial reports.

The committee held a final meeting which included a site tour of the newly completed high school gymnasium. The primary business conducted involved a presentation of the financial and performance audit reports for Measure K and Measure G, resulting in an unmodified opinion with no findings or audit adjustments. Additionally, the committee reviewed and approved its final annual report, which is scheduled for submission to the Board of Education.

The Board of Education meeting included a school report from Los Alamitos High School highlighting student achievements and performances. Key agenda items included the ratification of an agreement with the Rancho Santiago Community College District for the Strong Workforce Program, the adoption of various recognition resolutions for employees, and the approval of revised board policies regarding graduation requirements and alternate credits. The Board also approved salary settlements and tentative agreements with the California School Employees Association and the Los Alamitos Education Association, adopted 2028-2029 school calendars, retirement resolutions, and developer fee increases. Additionally, the Board heard a presentation on the Citizens' Bond Oversight Committee's final report, conducted a public hearing on developer fees, reviewed a feasibility study for a new performing arts center, and discussed outside coursework policy recommendations.

The meeting and workshop focused on an overview of Advanced Placement course models, specifically comparing traditional models with the College Board's Career Kickstart approach and discussing new courses in Business and Cybersecurity. The Board approved a ratification for an overnight field trip for the high school boys varsity soccer team and formally approved the employment contract for the new Assistant Superintendent of Business Services, who was also introduced during the session.
