The Leyden Township Plan Commission will hold a public hearing to review the Proposed Township Comprehensive Plan.
This document is the first comprehensive plan for Leyden Township, outlining a future vision for growth and development over a ten-year lifespan, from 2025 to 2035. The plan focuses on two main sets of goals: Township-wide goals, which include Communications, Intergovernmental Cooperation, Infrastructure & Transport, and Services; and Central Leyden-specific goals, which address Land Use, Economic Development, Quality Housing, Open Space, Recreation & Natural Resources, and Placemaking. The overarching aim is to improve quality of life for residents, expand housing opportunities, enhance economic development, provide excellent services, promote well-planned development, revitalize commercial areas, support homeownership, maintain and improve parks and open spaces, and create central nodes for community use.
The meeting included Veterans Honor Wall presentations and an award letter from West Central Municipal Conference honoring Assessor Al J. Biancalana. The Highway Commissioner's report regarding an agreement with Compass Minerals America Inc. was reviewed. The board discussed and approved a resolution authorizing a real estate donation agreement, a resolution requesting that the Cook County Board of Commissioners commence proceedings for demolition of properties, a resolution awarding the bid proposal for The Altgeld Street Water Main Replacement Project, and a resolution approving an intergovernmental agreement for the license and use of Leyden Township's recreational property.
The meeting agenda includes reviewing and approving prior meeting minutes, the treasurer's report, and the approval of bills and expenditures. Various reports will be presented, including those from the Supervisor, Highway Commissioner, Assessor, Township Administrator, and Clerk, as well as Trustee and Committee reports on social services, local government, recreation, and sewer & water. New business involves resolutions authorizing agreements for handyman service, awarding a bid for reservoir rehabilitation, authorizing a property purchase, requesting proceedings for a property issue, supporting the Illinois America250 Commemoration, and amending the town code regarding water and sewer system charges. The 2026 Holiday and Board Meeting Schedule will also be discussed.
