The School Board recognized the Region 5 Outstanding New Secondary Teacher and winners of the Arbor Day Poetry Contest, and honored city school students for state-level academic and athletic achievements. The meeting featured a report from the student representative on end-of-year school activities and a presentation from middle school students regarding the redevelopment of the Northfax and Courthouse Plaza areas. Additionally, the principal of Fairfax High School provided a state-of-the-schools report covering demographics, enrollment, testing, and various school initiatives. The Superintendent provided updates on the city budget process, ongoing renovation projects, and various student and community events attended.

The committee discussed the Women's History Month event featuring sustainability initiatives and women-owned businesses, elected a new Vice Chair, and appointed a liaison to the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board. A recap of the recent annual work session with the mayor and council was provided, highlighting actionable goals and messaging. Additionally, the committee received a presentation on Go Electric DMV initiatives and the EECBG grant project, which includes plans for residential energy audits. Other updates included progress on the Urban Forest Master Plan, student engagement opportunities, and upcoming city budget proposals.

The meeting provided updates on action items regarding home sharing strategies. Discussions centered on leveraging existing materials such as the consumer guide and flyer for dissemination at the Village Expo, coordinating with county staff regarding home sharing initiatives, and securing a table for the program at the upcoming Village Expo. Additionally, the City Attorney provided feedback on the distribution of materials, and plans were made to showcase the table setup at a future advisory board meeting.

The City Council conducted a special meeting to address budget-related ordinances and appropriations. Key actions included approving a new real estate tax rate for commercial and industrial property to fund transportation, increasing wastewater utility rates by 6 percent, and raising the stormwater utility fee by 5 percent.
