New Mexico Behavioral Health Initiative Roadmap 2026-2028
The New Mexico Behavioral Health Initiative (BHI) Roadmap outlines a strategic direction to build prevention-focused comprehensive behavioral health models (CBHMs) within schools and districts across New Mexico. The plan, active from January 2026 through June 2028, is structured around four levels of support: Behavioral Health Pilot, Focused Support, Universal Support, and State-Level Action. Key strategic pillars include fostering authentic partnerships among state agencies, BHI partners, community partners, and districts; increasing awareness and understanding of behavioral health's connection to academic outcomes; and creating a well-balanced, comprehensive behavioral health system focused on prevention and supportive conditions for all districts and schools. The overarching vision is to establish sustainable school environments that support the well-being of students, staff, and families, and promote the development of social-emotional skills.
