The plan aims to maintain and protect Athol's natural resources, improve community facilities and services, encourage a mix of housing types, protect historic and scenic resources, support economic development, improve transportation, and manage capital improvements and land use effectively. Specific goals include protecting water supplies, managing waste, improving recreational resources, balancing residential development with services and resource protection, promoting historic preservation, diversifying the economy, improving traffic patterns, and coordinating major projects. Recommendations include protecting open space, improving water and wastewater systems, encouraging diverse housing, revitalizing historic areas, supporting local businesses, improving transportation infrastructure, and managing capital improvements to align with the plan's goals.
