The meeting began with the recognition of the Winthrop Police Department by the University of Maine at Augusta (UMA) for receiving the 100% Community Policing Education Award. This award signifies that every sworn officer in the department has completed the requisite community policing certificate, demonstrating a shared approach, training, and commitment to partnering with residents. The UMA representative emphasized the importance of this certification in preparing public safety personnel to serve their communities effectively.
The 2025-2030 Strategic Plan for the University of Maine at Augusta (UMA) is titled "Building a Sustainable Future Through Access and Innovation." It aims to transform lives through accessible, high-quality higher education, preparing students for meaningful careers and strengthening communities. The plan is structured around six key strategies: Strengthen Student Success, Transform Lives, Advance Academics, Enhance Marketing and Recruitment, Cultivate Reputation and Resources, and Strive for Efficiency and Sustainability. The intended outcomes include expanding affordable access, designing workforce-responsive programs, enhancing student completion, growing residential experiences, and ensuring UMA's long-term sustainability while leveraging technology and innovation to meet Maine's workforce development goals.
