Feminist Design Think Tank Think Tank Concept
This document outlines the concept for establishing a Feminist Design Think Tank, an initiative by Isabela Prochner, Assistant Professor at Syracuse University. The proposed think tank aims to address wicked socio-economic problems through feminist technology and design. It is envisioned as a contemporary, collaborative space for designers and researchers, bridging design practice and research, while actively countering problematic norms in industrial design such as presumed neutrality, exclusion of diverse voices, and overconsumption. Key focus areas include emphasizing human life and flourishing over output and growth, fostering empowering and non-hierarchical workspaces, creating thoughtful products for female users, ensuring social and economic sustainability, and promoting accountability, transparency, and job creation through design.
