Board meetings and strategic plans from Kathy Sieck-Chase's organization
The committee meeting covered several key topics, including the selection of committee officers (Chair, Vice Chair, and Secretary). Cultural awareness professional development for McIntosh staff was scheduled for February 5, 2021, and participation in a Native American Needs Assessment was planned for January 2021. A collaborative effort with the Department of Education regarding the implementation of the Oceti Sakowin Essential Understandings was also discussed, along with the distribution of TOMS shoes and BAMBAS socks to students. The committee reviewed the Federal Programs Fiscal Report, including the Title VII Indian Ed Grant and Johnson O'Malley funds, and discussed options for using remaining funds, such as a lyceum, scholarships, or a speaker panel. The number of enrolled students (157 as of September 30, 2020) was noted.
The meeting addressed concerns about current bus routes and the need to accommodate additional students. Discussions led to decisions regarding the purchase of an additional "Type A" bus and route adjustments. Executive sessions were held to discuss personnel and student matters, but no action was taken during the student matter session.
The meeting reviewed and discussed Indian Policy and procedures for Impact Aid programs. Changes were adopted to the budget timeline and publishing in the official school paper, as well as to the meeting time of the Impact Aid public meeting. Title I requirements and program benefits were also reviewed.
The meeting included discussion and action on several items. A teacher contract was offered to Jim Hartwell, with a roll call vote resulting in approval. A contract was also offered to Bonnie Burke for School Nurse. Discussion regarding a marquee was held.
The board meeting included gavel training led by Dr. Randall Royer from ASBSD. A donation of copiers from USDA/FSA to the McIntosh PSD was accepted. An executive session was held to discuss personnel matters. Finally, the board voted to offer the SPED Director/PK-12 SPED teacher position to Tiffany Hearne.
