The Walton County School District's 2020-2025 Strategic Plan aims to improve student achievement and district rankings to become #1 in the state. The plan is organized into five goals: Highest Student Achievement, Standards-Based Curriculum & Instruction, Engaged, Informed and Empowered Stakeholders, Quality, Equitable, Efficient Services, and Safe and Secure Schools. Each goal includes objectives outlining specific actions to achieve the goals, focusing on areas such as improving teaching and learning, closing achievement gaps, enhancing stakeholder engagement, optimizing resources, and ensuring school safety. The plan utilizes performance indicators to track progress and make data-driven decisions to continuously improve.

The meeting included presentations recognizing outstanding school volunteers and fundraising efforts for Children In Crisis. Key actions involved approving the meeting agenda, various travel requests for school groups, and numerous purchase orders exceeding $25,000. The board also approved the 2019-2020 school calendar, amendments to school board rules/policies, a contract for telecommunications, a deductive change order for Dune Lakes Elementary, and several personnel recommendations. A facilities update was provided, along with a presentation on the Magnet Innovation Center. Finally, the board approved a student expulsion and scheduled future meetings to discuss a lease agreement and the Guardian Program.

The meeting covered various action items, including the approval of purchase orders, travel requests for cheerleading teams, contracts with PAEC for consulting services and risk management, a performance contract for exceptional student education, and an increase in pay for SPICE OPS workers. Discussions included technology updates, monthly financial statements, and contracts for consultant services related to transportation, curriculum and instruction, and facilities and maintenance. Personnel recommendations and addendums were also approved. Updates were provided on the Magnet Innovation Center at St. Joe, Watercolor, and Dune Lakes Elementary. A portable classroom lease for West DeFuniak Elementary was approved, along with a deductive change order for Dune Lakes Elementary. The approval of FADSS membership dues, a student expulsion, and a memorandum of understanding with the Walton County Education Association were also addressed. Finally, the board designated members for the District's Legislative Committee.

The meeting included a public hearing for discussion of a new adoption to school board rule/policy, the adoption of school board rule/policy 5.90+ regarding foreign exchange students, approval of a memorandum of agreement between the University of South Florida and Walton County School District for a youth mental health awareness and training project, approval of an agreement between Heffley & Associates and the Walton County School Board for representation with state government, approval of various financial statements, approval of a new instructional support specialist position description, approval of a contract with Florida State University for student teaching, approval of personnel recommendations, approval of a contract with Educational Management Consultant Services, Inc. for student services, approval of a contract amendment with Gaetz Aerospace Institute and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, approval of a Title III Immigrant Project Application, an exceptional student education update presentation, approval of new copier contracts, approval of an agreement with the DeFuniak Little League Association, notice of proposed purchase of real property, approval of final payment for South Walton High School classroom additions, approval of an architectural contract for South Walton High School athletic facilities, approval of construction management advertisement for South Walton High School athletic facilities, approval of a change order for Dune Lakes Elementary School, and the appointment of a second school board member to serve as an alternate to the Value Adjustment Board. A special meeting was scheduled to discuss amending the notice of tax for school capital outlay advertisement and approval.
