The board meeting involved discussions on public housing operations, including updates on scattered sites and the home ownership program. The board received reports on public housing occupancy, section 8 utilization, and supportive services. A presentation was held regarding the agency plan, specifically focusing on demolition and disposition, occupancy rule changes, capital improvements, and operations management. The board formally set the date for a public hearing concerning the agency plan. Additionally, the meeting featured a presentation for a graduating client from the Family Self-Sufficiency program and discussed the relocation of board meetings to a new facility.

The board ratified the 2026 meeting schedule and established a committee to nominate a Chair and Vice-Chair for the year. A major portion of the meeting was dedicated to the review and recommendation of the Foundry Lofts development project, involving discussions on building design, site integration, pedestrian and bike access, landscaping, and financial assistance. Additionally, the board shared information regarding the Des Moines Heritage Trust historic nominations and upcoming subcommittee project reviews.

The Board of Trustees held a series of closed sessions to conduct interviews with candidates for the position of Director of the Des Moines Public Library, including Rhonda Frevert, Rebecca Stavick, Melissa McCollum, and Greg Diaz. Following the conclusion of these individual interviews, the Board convened a final session to deliberate regarding the candidate selection process.

Additionally, an alternative work arrangement policy was approved to allow staff to work outside the city, and revisions were made to the Unattended Children and Vulnerable Individuals Policy. The board reviewed a strategic plan update, accepted financial reports and Foundation gifts, and heard reports regarding library programs, community engagement, and Foundation support. A closed session was held to discuss litigation strategy.

The Board recessed and reconvened in a closed session in accordance with the Code of Iowa to deliberate regarding the interviews for the position of Director of the Des Moines Public Library.
