Finance, Assessment and Taxation Committee
The committee discussed the proposed budget for 2026. Presentations were given by the Department of Recreation, Youth and Workforce Services, and the Community Police Review Board. Topics included recreation court resurfacing, maintenance equipment for recreation, recreation playgrounds, and recreation spray pads. A public comment was heard regarding handouts of presentations, recreation programs, workforce services, and funding for the Community Policing Review Board. The Department of Recreation presented its mission, core functions, public engagement statistics, highlights of the current year, operating budget including additional positions, and 2026 goals. Capital projects include the Wilky playground renovation, court updates, and updating the splash pad at North Swan Street. An error in the budget regarding Swimburn revenue was addressed, and the Swimburn master plan was discussed. The need to expand the workforce and a model with free services for those in need but some other benefits that are paid was also discussed.
