The St. Johns County School District's Strategic Plan 2023-2028 is designed to inspire good character and a passion for lifelong learning in all students, fostering educated and caring contributors to the world. It envisions all students choosing a learning path that leads to well-rounded graduates demonstrating good character and leadership, rooted in the belief that continuous learning is essential for a productive and enriched life. The plan focuses on strategic objectives including enhancing stakeholder communication and engagement, optimizing teacher and staff recruitment and retention, empowering student voice, promoting student academic growth through personalized learning and supports, and integrating relevant technology into learning experiences.

The School Board Workshop included several key discussion items. The opening comments featured acknowledgments of a recent conference, 'book literacy week,' a jazz concert, and a Teacher of the Year banquet, as well as the excitement surrounding a new South Woods school addition. The main workshop topics presented were an update on construction projects, staffing updates for new K-8 schools, and the process for naming new schools. The superintendent also recognized a board member for achieving advanced board member certification.

The meeting commenced with a CHARACTER COUNTS! presentation by a high school student and a dedication to a recently passed individual. Agenda items included approving the regular agenda, recognizing award recipients for leadership and assistant principal achievements, and adopting a proclamation for Student Support Services Week. Key operational discussions included holding public hearings for proposed amendments to School Board Rules concerning volunteers, bullying, and wireless communication devices, as well as rules for personnel and terminal pay of sick leave. Finance actions involved approving two budget amendments for the 2025-2026 fiscal year and accepting various financial and audit reports, including the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report for the Fiscal Year Ended June 30, 2025. Operational Services approved naming the St. Augustine High School Gymnasium Floor after Johnnie "Purcell" Hall Court and approved an update to the Student Assignment, Enrollment and Choice Plan to implement Controlled Open Enrollment for the 2025-2026 School Year.

The special board meeting convened to receive public comment and hold a public hearing regarding recommended instructional materials for English/Language Arts (ELA) and Health Opportunities through Physical Education (HOPE). Opening comments included appreciation for the new year and recognition of an outstanding presentation by CTE students at Rotary, noting that 60% of students now participate in academies. Public comment was received both in person and online regarding classroom resources.

The 2025-26 Schoolwide Improvement Plan for R. J. Murray Middle School outlines a strategy to enhance student achievement and foster a positive learning environment. The plan focuses on improving academic outcomes, particularly for Students with Disabilities and African American/Black students in ELA and Math, aiming to close identified achievement gaps. A key initiative is the implementation of a school-wide Positive Behavior and Intervention System (PBIS) to cultivate positive student behavior, reduce disciplinary issues, and strengthen school culture. The overall objective is to prepare all students for high school and post-secondary success.
