Oregon State Marine Board Public Hearing
The public hearing focused on a proposed motor regulation for the Siletz River. Key discussion topics included the impact of potential motor bans on river access for anglers, particularly regarding accessibility for elderly and handicapped individuals. Participants discussed the safety records of fishing guides, the necessity of life jackets, and the potential impact of various cutoff points for motorized access on river congestion, noise levels, and tribal property usage. There was significant input regarding the need for a data-driven approach rather than a ban, with suggestions for compromises such as allowing specific motor types or adjusting the geographical restrictions to prevent negative impacts on different user groups.
