The work session included several key discussions and deliberations. The Chief Financial Officer presented the Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas (FIRST REPORT). The Chief of Marketing & Communications provided an overview of the Blue Zones Project aimed at building a healthier future in the district. The President also discussed items slated for the subsequent Regular Board Meeting agenda. The session included an Executive Session to seek attorney advice regarding pending or contemplated litigation and matters where attorney duties conflict with the Open Meetings Act. Deliberations also covered the purchase, exchange, sale, lease, or value of real property, and the appointment, employment, evaluation, and discipline of public officers or employees.
The meeting featured public input regarding the 2025-2026 Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) and the Irving School Foundation 2025-2026 Employee Giving Campaign. Consent agenda items approved included the Financial Statement for September 2025, supplements to the Tax Rolls, budget amendments, authorization for refunding bonds issuance, campus improvement plans, award for office and campus furniture, and acceptance of gifts and donations. Recognitions were given for Teacher of the Month, Employee of the Month, and Guest Educator of the Month. The Superintendent announced recognition for National Merit Scholarship honorees, the district being named a CTE District of Distinction, and congratulations to qualifying cross-country athletes. Board members shared updates from campus visits and expressed pride in student achievements.
The meeting included recognitions of a CTE Teacher, a Building Manager, and a Guest Educator of the Month. The consent agenda covered approvals for minutes, financial statements, tax roll supplements, budget amendments, the fall library book list, and several RFP and RFQ awards and renewals for various services and supplies. The superintendent announced student and district achievements, including recognition for art, entrepreneurship, new facilities, and community service. Board members shared updates on a conference, new facilities, and recognized staff and student achievements.
The work session included a presentation on the State of the Arts in Irving Independent School District, the 25-26 Irving Independent School District Improvement Plan, and an overview of Irving Independent School District Historical and Current Enrollment. The board also discussed items on the October 20, 2025, Regular Board Meeting agenda. An executive session was held to seek legal advice, deliberate real property matters, and discuss personnel issues.
The School Health Advisory Council meeting included a review of 5th-grade growth and development TEKS, focusing on physical health, hygiene, healthy eating, physical activity, and reproductive and sexual health. The council reviewed and approved updated growth and development videos. Updates were provided on employee wellness programs, guidance and counseling services, and student nutrition programs, including the Fresh Fruits & Vegetables Grant. The council also discussed the Swim Possible program and reviewed the Campus Wellness Assessment, planning for its release and discussing action steps to address areas for improvement.
