Board meetings and strategic plans from James T. Anderson's organization
This document serves as an archival index for board meeting minutes, providing a structured listing of meetings held by the Board of Education. It functions as a historical record to facilitate public access to official board meeting documentation across multiple years.
The meeting included a public hearing regarding the proposed use of SAVE revenue for an athletic facility infrastructure project. Other agenda topics included school presentations from the Expo ALC and Waterloo Career Center, a board celebration honoring FIRST Tech Challenge and FIRST Robotics Competition participants, and the acceptance of a donation from the R.J. McElroy Trust. Additionally, the board discussed graduation dates for the Class of 2026, various personnel adjustments, agreements for the Waterloo Career Center, an AFJROTC memorandum, travel requests, and a three-year budget plan.
The Waterloo Schools community is committed to a comprehensive system of education and support to ensure all students graduate prepared for college, career, and citizenship. The strategic plan focuses on four key areas: People, Achievement, Community, and Environment. It aims to recruit and retain a diverse, high-performing workforce; increase student achievement through rigorous curriculum and effective instruction; strengthen community partnerships for student success; and provide a safe, inspiring, and welcoming optimal learning environment.
The Board of Education conducted a meeting that included entering into a closed session for a student expulsion hearing. Upon returning to open session, the Board voted to sustain the recommendation to expel an East High School student for one calendar year, effective immediately, for the possession of a firearm on school grounds and eluding police. The Board approved the proposed Findings of Fact and Conclusions of Law related to the expulsion.
The meeting included informational presentations regarding the programming and transition of the Expo Alternative Learning Center to the Greenbrier location, and programming and business partnerships for the Waterloo Career Center. Key actions approved unanimously included the Consent Agenda items (excluding personnel appointments/adjustments which required a separate vote), personnel appointments and adjustments, bills due & payable and bills paid between board meetings, and open enrollment. Additionally, the Board approved the Waterloo District At-Risk Plan for 2026-2027 and authorized the submission of a request to the School Budget Review Committee (SBRC) for $4,203,365 in Modified Supplemental Amount (MSA) to fund at-risk programs for the 2026-2027 school year. The Superintendent's Report provided updates on the passing of a student's family members, an upcoming balloon launch, the end of the first semester, the approval of four new teachers, and the plan to present proposed budget reductions at the February 23 board meeting.
