City Council School Committee Joint Convention
This joint convention was convened by the City Council and School Committee, chaired by the Mayor, to fill a vacancy on the School Committee following the passing of a member. The discussion reviewed the initial meeting held on October 7th, where multiple candidates spoke, resulting in five nominees, but no candidate secured the requisite nine votes. The convention recessed until this date to consider the remaining four nominees: Lee Blake, Henry Bouquet, Marcus Coward, and Brad Marky. A letter from Henry Bouquet, withdrawing his candidacy, was read into the record, citing belief in prioritizing the best possible candidate focused on fiduciary oversight and diversity of thought. Following this, a subsequent ballot was conducted, resulting in Brad Marky receiving nine votes and being elected to fill the vacancy. The Mayor congratulated the elected member and all candidates, emphasizing the goal of serving the students well. The newly elected member was subsequently sworn in.
