Board meetings and strategic plans from Greg /reasoning* Parpart's organization
This strategic vision outlines how Dane County plans to address growth, ensure effective, equitable, and fiscally responsible results, and foster stronger coordination within County government. The plan is grounded in collaboration, responsible stewardship, and a commitment to leaving the County stronger. It is guided by "The Dane County Way," which emphasizes good governance, inclusive engagement, sustainable growth, shared prosperity, and responsible stewardship. The strategic focus is defined by four pillars: Community Services Delivery, Economic Development, Justice System Improvement, and Environmental Leadership, all underpinned by fiscal responsibility, to improve outcomes for residents, strengthen communities, and prepare for future growth.
The board members conducted site inspections for an upcoming public hearing. The inspection focused on an appeal concerning a variance request for driveway access to a proposed residence that involves a minimum required wetland setback.
The committee conducted elections for the positions of Chair and Vice Chair. Presentations were held regarding the By Youth for Youth program and an orientation to the role of the UW Extension in the county. Additionally, the committee received reports from the Youth Governance Program, which identified substance misuse as a future focus area and discussed an upcoming event at the zoo, as well as an April program report from the Director.
The committee reviewed and recommended for approval an ordinance amendment to increase marriage license and domestic partnership termination fees, with a new provision allowing fee waivers for indigent individuals. They also recommended approval of county executive appointments and a resolution establishing an equity food program. A student intern presented research findings on youth mental health support stabilization in the county, which included a report and presentation to the committee.
The council reviewed reports regarding the development of the Dane County Food Action Plan, including upcoming USDA grant application strategies, updates on the Foodshed Partnership project, and regional food system engagement. Additional updates included information on the Gus Schumacher Nutrition Incentive Program grant application, the hiring of a new Extension Dane County Director, and the distribution of funds through the Partners in Community Food Grant Program. The meeting also featured a discussion on the council's future focus and direction, which will be revisited in subsequent sessions.
