Oak Island Town Council Regular Meeting
The meeting included a welcome for the new town manager and a public hearing regarding the rezoning of town-owned properties on Ocean Drive. The council voted to deny a proposal to rezone the pier and event center to Commercial Business, directing staff to instead collaborate with the planning board on creating a custom zoning district that would better protect the assets. Additionally, a representative from the Environmental Advisory Committee provided an update on recent environmental initiatives and requested formal approval for a new coastal butterfly garden project funded by a grant.

Deliberations included the technical requirements of master plans, the implications of ground leases, and how different regulatory approaches might allow for controlled expansion of permitted uses.
