San José/Evergreen Community College District Governing Board Minutes
The Board meeting commenced with a Closed Session to discuss public employee performance evaluation and anticipated litigation. Upon reconvening in open session, the agenda was adopted, and public comments were heard regarding a student trustee's experience and a request to save an employee's job, which the Board noted could be placed on a future agenda. Governance discussions included approving privileges for Student Trustees, excluding Closed Session attendance. Recognition was given to an employee selected as one of CSEA's top members of the year, and Employee of the Year awards were presented to three individuals. Key actions included approving management, faculty, and classified personnel actions, curriculum recommendations for Evergreen Valley College, and the San Jose City College proposed budget for 2012-2013. A detailed discussion and subsequent approval occurred regarding the establishment of a CalWorks Student Mentor position, addressing concerns raised by CSEA about bargaining unit work. In the Action Agenda, the Board approved the Specifications of the Election Order and passed a resolution to name the Fine Arts Building at San Jose City College the "Carmen Castellano Fine Arts Center." A lengthy debate ensued regarding the Strategic Technology Infrastructure Services Selection, focusing on contracting with CampusWorks, Inc., concerning cost, expertise, and alignment with accreditation needs; a motion to award the contract failed. The Board approved proceeding with further investigations into two options for the District Office Facility: renovating the existing office or purchasing and renovating an off-campus facility. Information agenda items included an update on the Fine Arts & Multi-Disciplinary Building completion schedule, a first reading for the FY2012/13 contract renewal for Measure G-2010 Program/Construction Management Services with Gilbane Building Company, an overview of land development project study, and first readings for three new or revised Board Policies.
