The committee convened to evaluate community input regarding the potential renaming of Harding Elementary School. Discussions included historical context about the school's name and previous efforts to honor Colonel John Boyd, as well as an analysis of survey results from the general public, students, parents, and staff. The committee considered several options, including renaming the school, making no changes, or honoring Colonel Boyd in alternative ways. Ultimately, the committee reached a consensus to recommend honoring the previous 2005 decision to name the school library after Colonel John Boyd, thereby preserving the current school identity while still providing appropriate recognition.
The committee meetings focused on evaluating and enhancing the district's suicide prevention, intervention, and postvention systems. Key discussion topics included reviewing existing mental health supports, identifying challenges such as inconsistent communication, reporting delays, and the necessity for robust, ongoing staff training. The committee examined student feedback regarding support and reporting stigmas, and addressed the need for improved parent communication strategies. Collaborative efforts with external partners were explored to map referral processes, develop clear crisis response algorithms, and create a framework for future needs assessments, surveys, and district-wide resource coordination.
The committee addressed several key governance and administrative matters. Discussions focused on the update regarding the Hearing Officer hiring process and the usage protocols for body camera footage in student disciplinary proceedings. The committee reviewed the Jordan Order action plan and examined various district discipline agreement templates to ensure alignment with existing board policies. Furthermore, the members emphasized the need for consistent administrator training on due process and discipline procedures and initiated planning for an upcoming board retreat to cover strategic planning and evaluation results.
