Minneapolis Public Schools Work Session
The board work session focused on two primary topics. First, a Coordinated Early Intervention Services (CEIS) update was provided, addressing significant disproportionality, mandatory improvement status requirements, and specific intervention goals to improve inclusion and reduce identification rates of Black/African American students in special education. The discussion included identified barriers at both the site and district levels, as well as required supports. Second, a comprehensive overview of Community Education was presented, detailing its mission, organizational structure, and funding models across various programs including Adult Education, Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE), Mpls Kids, Teen Parent Services, and Youth and Adult Enrichment. The report highlighted how these programs are adjusting to fiscal realities through strategies such as sliding scale fees, hiring freezes, and site consolidations.
