The 2020-2025 Alabama State Historic Preservation Plan outlines goals and objectives to protect, preserve, and interpret Alabama's historic places. Key areas of focus include identifying and documenting significant historic resources, particularly those related to enslaved people and the Civil Rights movement; expanding collaborations and partnerships; sharing preservation success stories; developing and maintaining data systems; fostering the understanding of historic places' value; and supporting incentives and regulations for cultural resource protection. Outcomes aim to improve the documentation and protection of Alabama's diverse cultural heritage, enhance community engagement, promote heritage tourism, and leverage preservation as an economic development tool.

The meeting included a chairman's report, a resolution honoring historic artisan Jimmy Walker, and amendments to the Historical Commission's Administrative Rule for the Alabama Historic Rehabilitation Tax Credit and Fees Appendix. A Finance Committee report covered operating and capital outlay revenue/expenses, FY22 increases, and the Alabama Cultural Resources Trust Fund. The meeting also addressed the Executive Director's salary increase, grant funding for several museums, and operational funding for the Friends of the Joe Wheeler Home Foundation. An update on the Black Heritage Council's activities and the Executive Director's report were also presented.

The committee reviewed rating sheets received prior to the meeting and ranked the following projects: Adler Furniture Building, Harmony Club Building, Banker Bond/Massey Building, and 762 St. Louis Street. Final rankings were announced.

The meeting included presentations and approvals of National Register nominations for several properties: the Talladega College Historic District, Clotilda, Twelvemile Island Ship Graveyard Historical and Archaeological District, Phenix City Post Office Building, Norwood Historic District (Boundary Increase and Additional Documentation), and Moody Hospital. A National Register program update was also given. An interim vice chair was elected.
