The City Council held a closed session to discuss legal actions, causes of action, or litigation involving the governmental body and confidential communications with its attorneys, as well as matters pertaining to the leasing, purchase, or sale of real estate where public disclosure could affect the consideration of the transactions.

The City Council conducted a regular session that included the appointment of a Mayor Pro Tem and several proclamations, including Building Safety Month, Bike and Walk Month, and Mental Health Awareness Month. Public hearings were held regarding the vacation of a portion of the SW Jefferson Street right-of-way, a special use permit renewal for outdoor ball field lighting at Summit Christian Academy, a preliminary development plan for John Knox Village, and an amended redevelopment plan for 1601 SE Hamblen Road. The Council also approved a sole source agreement for radio read meter equipment, authorized an intergovernmental agreement for a Ground Emergency Medical Transportation reimbursement program, and advanced several ordinances related to property transfers and subdivision plats. Committee reports and discussions regarding budget transparency, committee assignments for liquor licenses, and public comment procedures were also addressed.

The Planning Commission discussed the application for a Preliminary Development Plan for a sports complex project, specifically regarding the installation of an inflatable soccer dome. The applicant detailed design adjustments, including height reduction, improved air handling, and the addition of skylights to manage snow loads, as well as enhanced landscaping buffers to mitigate impact on adjacent properties. The project is anticipated to function as a regional sports facility, and the discussion highlighted its potential to draw visitors, thereby benefiting the community's local economy.

The committee meeting addressed the 2026-2027 Community Development Block Grant annual action plan, including a presentation on the program's objectives, funding priorities, and compliance with federal immigration status verification requirements. Discussion also focused on performance metrics for current public service and construction projects, the adjustment of per-project limits for home repair programs, and the redirection of funds from projects deemed infeasible under current market conditions.

The committee discussed the expansion of the water utility service center parking lot and authorized the execution of work under a construction services agreement. Additionally, the committee reviewed a ground lease agreement for the development of a hangar at the Kansas City Lee's Summit Regional Airport and approved a modification to a professional engineering services agreement for the Douglas Road improvement project, which includes construction administration and design work for additional conduit installation.
