Board meetings and strategic plans from Daniel E. Casagrande's organization
The committee reviewed several entities for re-establishment and consolidation. Motions were passed to combine the Still River Alliance Commission with the Conservation Commission. The Richter Park Authority, Environmental Impact Commission, and Danbury Museum and Historical Society were each re-established for a three-year term. The Conservation Commission was re-established for one year with a directive to coordinate further consolidation efforts. The committee decided to take no action regarding the Danbury Main Street Partnership, allowing it to terminate as scheduled, and recommended removing the Danbury Housing Partnership from the City of Danbury Code of Ordinance.
The Board conducted public hearings for several variance applications. Decisions included continuing an application regarding property additions at 8 South Cornell Road, approving a variance for grading and driveway grade at 24 Hillandale Road, continuing an application regarding driveway and grading at 73 ½ & 75 Osborne Street, and approving a setback variance for an addition at 12 Sage Road. Additionally, the Board reviewed and approved revisions to the ZBA by-laws.
The Board of Awards meeting agenda includes the review of four items: a request for proposal for ambulance billing, revenue management, and analytical services; the purchase of two 2026 Ford F550 4x4 trucks with stainless steel dump bodies and accessories for the Highway Department; the purchase of one 2026 Ford F550 4x4 truck with stainless steel dump body and accessories for the Highway Department; and the purchase of a Tiger Brute LRS boom mower with a John Deere 6105E 4WD tractor for the Highway Department.
The council meeting addressed various appointments to city commissions, including the Environmental Impact Commission, Planning Commission, Board of Ethics, and Lake Kenosia Commission. Legislative actions included the authorization of new ordinances for automated traffic enforcement, approval of multiple collective bargaining agreements for public works, public buildings, and public utilities, and budget transfers for year-end re-appropriations. The council also deliberated on bond issuance resolutions, reviewed donation acceptances, discussed sewer and water extension applications, and received department reports regarding city services and infrastructure.
The public hearing focused on a proposed resolution authorizing the issuance and sale of up to $130,000,000 in revenue bonds for the Danbury Proton Therapy Center Project. Public testimony included concerns regarding the transparency of the process, the clinical effectiveness of proton therapy, the financial liability the city would assume, potential impacts on open land, and the aesthetic benefits of the planned facility. Residents also questioned the decision not to submit the bond issuance to a public referendum.
