City Commission Meeting Minutes
The City Commission meeting addressed numerous items, primarily through a Consent Agenda that included resolutions for a Municipal Elections Agreement, an amendment to a contract with the Institute of Police Technology and Management for a Pedestrian and Bicycle Safety Grant, awarding a bid for a Chemical Threat Detection System, amendments to the Fiscal Year budget and personnel summary, awarding bids for utility bill printing services, and several actions concerning the vacation of drainage and utility easements. The Quasi-Judicial Consent Agenda involved decisions concerning The Goddard School of Sunrise, which were moved to a subsequent full public hearing, and a Master Plan for Camino Real, which was rescheduled to a Special City Commission Meeting. Special Items included presentations recognizing youth athletes and retiring employees, and proclamations for National Mentoring Month and American Heart Month. City Items involved the appointment of members to the Sustainability Advisory Board. Public Hearings covered the second reading of ordinances related to a municipal election scheduled for November 2026, amendments to the Land Development Code concerning Certified Recovery Residences, and budget amendments. Further public hearings addressed the first reading of an ordinance modifying the 84 South Development of Regional Impact height and setback requirements (tabled to a later date), a Development Agreement (pulled from the agenda), and an amendment to the 2025/2026 Budget Ordinance. The Quasi-Judicial Hearing on rezoning to a Planned Development District was tabled. Old Business included approving membership to the Broward County Black Chamber of Commerce and a detailed discussion regarding the potential closure of Bair Middle School, where the Commission considered issuing a letter of intent to occupy 25% of the space to support keeping the school open.
