The public hearing focused on a proposed official community plan amendment and a zoning amendment concerning five city-owned properties located along the Dawson Creek corridor. The amendments aim to redesignate these lands as parks, natural areas, and trails, and rezone them to a P1 parks and natural areas zone. This proposal is intended to preserve the natural features of the area, maintain stormwater and flood management functions, and limit future development in a flood-prone zone.
The Council issued several proclamations during the meeting. These included declaring the International Day of Peace, recognizing Rail Safety Week to promote public awareness regarding railway safety, designating Community Inclusion Month to celebrate the contributions of individuals with diverse abilities, and establishing Kids Music Day to highlight the importance of music education for youth.
The council meeting addressed several proclamations and organizational updates. Key actions included the proclamation of September 2026 as both Craniofacial Awareness Month and Literacy Month in the city. The council also received an annual update from the South Peace Art Society regarding its operations, youth programming, and ongoing projects, including new murals within the community. Additionally, discussions highlighted the importance of fostering lifelong learning through arts and literacy initiatives and noted the increase in funding for the arts to support inclusive community environments.
