The board discussed several key topics including curriculum adoption recommendations for middle school science and social studies, an annual report regarding sexual harassment of students and a proposed revision to the district procedure, and a fixed assets audit report. The board also reviewed an indoor air quality grant request for proposal, discussed the upcoming WIAA enrollment for the 2026-2027 school year, and agreed to commission a facilities and long-range planning committee. Additionally, the board reviewed the upcoming meeting date calendar, received an update on the transition to BoardBook software, and discussed district school recognition, new coach approval requirements, the status of the dual language program, and highly capable program data.

The meeting featured presentations from high school student leadership regarding recent academic and extracurricular successes. The Board approved a 2026-2027 schedule variance for Mt. Spokane High School and revisions to policies regarding holiday designations and credit opportunities for paid work experience. A resolution was adopted supporting Washington State Initiatives IL 26-638 and IL 26-001. Additionally, the Board recommended changes to the Washington State School Directors' Association legislative positions, approved a new vendor for the yearbook RFP, and authorized a student music trip to Orlando. Financial reports and curriculum development updates were also discussed.

The board convened to discuss a proposed Modified Education Program in response to a significant budget shortfall. A major portion of the meeting was dedicated to public comment, during which numerous community members, parents, teachers, and students voiced concerns regarding the potential impact of proposed budget cuts on various programs, specifically the ELL program, RA program, M.E.A.D. program, para-educator staffing, and social worker roles. The board also held an executive session to review the performance of a public employee.

The meeting agenda includes the approval of vouchers, personnel actions, and extra-curricular and supplemental contracts as part of the consent agenda. Additionally, a student travel proposal for the Mead High School Jazz Choir is slated for action. Reports to be presented include the financial report for August, a safety committee update, and the superintendent's report.
