The Council is holding a special meeting and public hearing to discuss the amendment of the 2024-2025 Budget and the adoption of the 2025-2026 Budget.
The meeting included a review and amendment of the 2024-2025 budget by the Town's CPA, followed by the adoption of the new budget for 2026. The proposed budget for the year Oct 1, 2025 thru September 2026 was summarized.
The meeting included a presentation by Jason Fuselier from Acadian Ambulance Service and discussion regarding the Vinton Harbor and Terminal Board. An update on pending grants/projects/PPDR was provided, and Phillip Abshire, the Town's CPA, presented the 2025 Budget. Discussion was held over an ordinance authorizing the Town of Vinton to enter into a Cooperative Endeavor Agreement with Gary "Stitch" Guillory, Sheriff of Calcasieu Parish, and Calcasieu Parish Law Enforcement District for the exchange of certain tracts. Reports were given by the Director of Public Works, Fire Chief, Police Chief, and Attorney.
The Governing Authority convened in a regular session. The financial report was accepted, and the secretary was authorized to pay the bills for June. It was advised that there was no need to move into executive session.
The council meeting covered several key topics. The council approved the payment of bills for March 2025. Announcements were made regarding an upcoming cleanup day at Edgerly Cemetery, a summer reading program for youth, and a corporate endeavor agreement to support the program. Monthly reports were presented by the police, electrical and public works, and fire and civil defense departments. An update was given on the Mardi Gras Heritage Foundation, and a proclamation was presented to Ivy Dugas.
