The Board held a special meeting to address personnel matters. The session included a closed session regarding public employee discipline, dismissal, or release. Upon reconvening, it was announced that no reportable actions were taken during the closed session. The meeting concluded with formal adjournment.
The meeting addressed several administrative and community concerns, starting with a land acknowledgment statement and a motion to enter a closed session for specific agenda items. The Board reaffirmed its commitment to the notice of decorum policy. The public comment period covered multiple grievances, including critiques of the Board's fiduciary responsibility, the absence of real-time technology instruction, and the need for greater shared governance regarding the Downtown campus. Additionally, participants raised concerns about the funding and budget cuts impacting opera programs, student lab aid positions, and DSPS student accommodation services. Finally, the Board noted an upcoming resolution regarding Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
The meeting included a special session for a budget hearing and adoption, where the board approved the FY 2026-2027 college budget. During the Committee of the Whole portion, the board engaged in a closed session regarding legal counsel, employee discipline, performance evaluations, and labor negotiations. Discussions included a proposed adjustment to the May 2027 board meeting date and the 2026 Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) annual certification report. First readings were conducted for several items, including celebratory resolutions, various out-of-state travel requests for staff, and categorical funds acceptance. Additionally, the board received reports from ad-hoc committees regarding advocacy and board policies, noting that both committees would be sunsetting, followed by individual reports from trustees.
