City of Alameda Climate Adaptation and Hazard Mitigation Plan 2026-2030
This Climate Adaptation and Hazard Mitigation Plan serves as a roadmap for the City of Alameda to adapt to climate change, reduce the impact of future disasters, and ensure equitable recovery. The plan prioritizes mitigating risks from earthquakes, floods, and sea level rise, which are identified as the greatest threats to the low-lying island community. Key strategic goals include reducing exposure to hazards, protecting the health, safety, and welfare of residents, minimizing damage to public and private property and the natural environment, and ensuring the continuity of essential services for timely and complete recovery. The plan also emphasizes increasing public awareness, fostering stakeholder participation, and preserving the city's character, with specific hazard-specific goals for sea level rise, flooding, drought, extreme heat, wildfires, earthquakes, and tsunamis. It is designed to be updated every five years to align with federal regulations and local planning cycles.
