New York City Solid Waste Management Plan 2026
The New York City 2026 Solid Waste Management Plan (SWMP26) is a 10-year strategy designed to reduce solid waste, manage existing practices, and evaluate future options for implementation. The plan aims to decrease waste disposal and enhance reduction, recycling, and recovery through eight key programs: Waste Prevention and Reuse, Organics Diversion and Recovery, Residential Recycling, Residential Municipal Solid Waste (MSW), Commercial Waste, Construction and Demolition (C&D) Waste, Special Waste, and Education and Outreach. It seeks to maintain a safe and effective solid waste management system while supporting the city's climate and environmental justice goals.

New York City Department Of Design And Construction Report
This document analyzes the strategic advances made by New York City and New York State towards establishing a circular economy for construction and demolition materials (CDM). It outlines the need for a systemic approach to maximize greenhouse gas reductions by reusing embodied carbon in CDMs. Key priorities include leveraging policies and private sector involvement, identifying high-potential CDMs for recovery, and integrating circular economy principles into public works contracts through waste management plans and green building standards. The overarching goal is to reduce carbon emissions, foster sustainable infrastructure, and achieve carbon neutrality by promoting the reduction, reuse, and recycling of construction materials.
