This study, 'Zuya Winyan Wicayu'onihan: Honoring Warrior Women,' by Sovereign Bodies Institute and Brave Heart Society, assesses the crisis of missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls (MMIWG) and sex trafficking in states impacted by the Keystone XL pipeline, particularly South Dakota. It aims to identify gaps in victim support and law enforcement capacity, while empowering tribal nations to address violence. The mission is to provide protection and safety for Indigenous Women threatened by 'man camps' associated with the Keystone XL pipeline and other fossil fuel developments. The report emphasizes the need for data collection, improved law enforcement response, and the implementation of tribal policies to address and prevent MMIWG and sex trafficking, ultimately recommending the denial of KXL permits.
